Description from the Artist:
These four separate portraits of Marie Antoinette show how she was always ahead of the fashion curve, being the first to wear men's riding clothes, as well as the latest in beautiful court gowns. But in private, she preferred a more relaxed gown like that of a peasant which became the rage despite being heavily criticized for wearing this. On the last day of her life, she wore only a simple chemise.
