VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS
Thank you for your interest in the Carpinteria Arts Center Program Aide (PA) opportunity! PA positions are for teen students entering 9th grade or above who are interested in art and/or working with children. Volunteer PA work counts toward required high school community service hours.
PAs earn 35 hours of community service per week total, from 8:30 AM-3:30 PM assisting students and professional teaching artists plus 5 hours for training.
Description of Program
We offer 6 one-week arts camp sessions and 1 two-week arts camp session from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, Monday through Friday for children ages 6-12. Arts by the Sea has a long tradition of offering children a chance to spend time outdoors exploring a variety of media as they create fine art in the morning and performing arts in the afternoon, three weeks of music and four weeks of theatre. PAs are responsible for assisting the teaching artists by preparing materials and helping children with hands-on art making or assisting the performing arts instructors with the students during afternoon activities. PAs must commit to volunteering the entire week. PAs will take part in art making, performing arts, and working with children. PAs attend orientation and receive mentoring by teaching artists and a letter of recommendation after the program if requested. PAs will develop a relationship with the Carpinteria Arts Center, gain teaching skills, learn new art techniques, and make new friends.
Orientation and Tour
PAs are required to attend an orientation held at the Carpinteria Arts Center. A short presentation will provide an overview of the commitments, followed by a tour of our facility and gallery. PAs will learn about our mission, gallery exhibition, the location of art materials, first aid equipment, and more. PAs will also be provided with a camp t-shirt.
