Description: My art is intended to convey the rough textures of the natural world and convey the beauty of everyday material, emphasizing the synchronization between the admired object and that which surrounds it. Also, my goal is to up-cycle that which is bound for the dumpster. I use burning, Swiss carving tools, oil, and acrylic in grooves. I sand & wash the wood to let it expand, then apply paint and additional cuts. My media is used wood siding, discarded dog-eared fence slats, and a simple piece of pine box. I developed my interest when circumstances prevented me from one of my favorite pastimes, hiking. I realized it wasn't the viewpoint I missed, but the cracks in the soil of a well-worn path.
